It was great to spend time with him and learn about bears. We got to feed him with fruit through a fence. We booked an experience with Josh the North American Black Bear. I highly recommend the South Florida Adventure pass as we did 3/4 of the activities and this made it affordable.įlamingo Gardens is a beautiful local attraction which does not feel too commercialised. What was shaping into a just ok visit ended on a high note for us. They are beautiful and they were all different shades of pink. Soon the rest of them were over eating out of everyone's hands. We got the fruit smoothies and as we were drinking them one flamingo woke up and slowly made his way over to where my son was standing with food. There is a snack bar with reasonably priced food and smoothies. We did not take the tram but did walk around and the property is lovely with large trees. There are many free roaming peacocks that are happy to come eat out of your hand. There are Ibis everywhere, I likened them to pigeons. There are signs to tell you, that you may get pooped on and do not look up with your mouth open. There was another bird exhibit that just smelled terrible due to the bird feces everywhere. There was a birds of prey exhibit that was good and you could get very close to them. I guess for a place called Flamingo Gardens we expected there to be more flamingoes. When we arrived we were sold bags of flamingo food but all of the flamingos were sleeping. It was a bit of a disappointment that due to bird flu he could not have a personal experience with the flamingos. We went to Flamingo Gardens because my son loves flamingos and when he found out about Flamingo Gardens during covid I told him the next time we go to Florida we will go. The rest of the ride was just to look at the birds. Two minutes later it was back to just noise. She did slow it down and did something to raise the volume. The people called out to her that we couldn’t hear a word she was saying. Spoke so fast and had that sing-song lilt that makes you glad you know what to do with a seat belt. She must have been a flight attendant in an earlier life. Tours are often graded on the guide and we didn’t draw well. Only down side to our day was the tram ride. Check out the Food Truck behind the cafe for a fresh variety. You can eat and watch the flamingo population fight for whatever’s important in their lives. There is an outdoor cafe for those interested in lunch. For young couples and kids, it might be more like me visiting Williamsburg, VA. For an older generation, it’s more like going back to where you grew up. There is a house to tour from the original homesteaders. The chicks are released when able to survive on their own. The enclosed bird area has hundreds of rescues- some of which have mated. Several are given the title of Largest in Florida. The walks through the trees have specimens that rank with the largest/oldest in the country. The land has since become an arboretum, bird sanctuary, education center and more. The Gardens have been around for a long time.
